Depression forms over Bay of Bengal amid cyclone threat

Chief Justice refuses to increase number of HC benches amid Covid-19 situation

Ruhul Quddus said only four HC benches are now virtually running for hearing and disposing of cases. A full bench and chamber judge of the Appellate Division are virtually functioning for five days every week. Lawyers have been habituated to virtually move cases in last one year (of pandemic period). Currently, holy Ramadan is going and Eid-ul-Fitr is ahead. If the number of High Court benches is increased to at least 10, the lawyers would be benefited, Ruhul Quddus said. Former SCBA vice president Md Ozi Ullah also urged the chief justice to increase the HC benches to deal with bail petitions (on which no rule was issued) and motions.

Fake DB man held with microbus in Rajshahi 161 RAJSHAHI, April 17, 2021 (BSS)- Police detained a fake Detective Branch (DB) man from Kasiadanga area on Rajshahi-Chapinawabganj highway in Rajshahi city last night. Police said the arrested person was identified as Masum Hossain, 30, son of Amir Hossain of Borokuthi area in the city. Police said the arrested person in connivance with three others who introduced themselves as DB men held a bKash agent with Taka two lakh in cash at gunpoint and handcuffed him from his grocery shop at Gogram Pujatala village under Godagari Upazila. They have been taking the hostage to an unknown destination with the microbus.
