State legislators have passed a bill that significantly expands testing for water systems across New York State.
The bill is a response to drinking water problems in other states. A recent Siena College study shows 64 percent of New Yorkers are concerned about their drinking water. The bill will test for 40 emerging contaminants in the drinking water supplies of every municipality in New York State.

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins is one of four finalists to become the next police chief in Akron, Ohio.
Hawkins has been Albany s top police officer for almost three years. He helped Albany with several community policing programs and entered the job when tensions between police and community were running high. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan says she has the best team in the business that receives job offers all the time.
