On this day in history… May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court of the United States unanimously made a “landmark” ruling that the “separate but equal” doctrine of racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. [1]Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote in the opinion, “We conclude that in the field of public education, the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. Therefore, we hold that the plaintiffs and others similarly situated for whom the actions have been brought are by reason of the segregation complained of, deprived of the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.”[2]

WAUKESHA, WI The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department
announced entries are now being accepted for the 2021 City of Waukesha July 4th Parade taking place on Sun., July 4.
Last year the city held a reverse parade due to the pandemic. The floats were stationary and motorists drive through along the parade path.

The parade will step off at 11:00 a.m. from Cutler Park, 321 Wisconsin Ave. Parade entry deadline is Fri., June 4, 2021. Applications for the parade are available on the City of Waukesha website at
Waukesha to celebrate 125th anniversary in 2021 with monthly events

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The City of Waukesha announced on Monday, Dec. 28 it will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its incorporation as a city with monthly events throughout 2021.
Waukesha was officially incorporated on Feb. 4, 1896, and will be recognizing the anniversary with the theme Looking Back – Reaching Forward.
The 125th Anniversary celebration will include recognition of the City at the following events in 2021:
Jan. 16: Unveiling of the 125th Anniversary Beer and Beer Release at the Waukesha JanBoree.
Feb. 4: Virtual City Hall Opening Ceremony. Enjoy videos and a virtual tour of our new City Hall as we celebrate the official anniversary of the City’s incorporation.
