S.B. Fuller was a prominent Chicagoan during the 1940s and 1950s a self-made Black millionaire whose door-to-door sales company was the nucleus of a national business empire.
Fuller is almost forgotten today, as is the spectacular, brick-and-glass, custom, mid-century modernist home he built in Robbins, a struggling working-class southern suburb that was founded by Black people.
But we’re hoping a small grant from the preservation group Landmarks Illinois provides a needed step toward saving the tattered home owned by the Robbins Historical Society and Museum since 2016 and shines a new light on Fuller and his legacy.

India Bids Farewell to Madame Tussauds
December 31, 2020
Madame Tussauds, the world famous wax museum, is closing up shop in Delhi, India, where it entered just 3 years ago in 2017. The popular museum is located in the Regal building in central Connaught Place, which was once a popular movie theatre.
The Regal Theatre also known as the Regal Cinema was a single screen cinema hall and theatre situated in Connaught Place in New Delhi. It was the first cinema to be constructed in New Delhi in the newly-developing Connaught Place area back in 1932.
Madame Tussauds Delhi, a wax museum and tourist attraction, took over the location changing it from a cinema to a museum and is the twenty-third location for the Tussauds. The museum in Delhi was set up by sculptor Marie Tussaud.
The new look Regal Theatre is benefiting from £3.6m of investment for a comprehensive expansion and refurbishment programme which will see it boast three modern cinema screens, improved audio-visual experience, as well as a new front of house, café and bar area.
Works are also being undertaken to restore and preserve many of the original features of the existing building built in 1936.
Two additional auditoria and a new café have been added in recent months.
Gerard Brewster, Mid Suffolk District Council’s cabinet member for economy, said: “This is an example of how we are investing in the future regeneration of our towns.
And as
The Hollywood Reporter notes, the movie industry itself isn t on board with the decision. It quotes top Warner Bros. director Christopher Nolan saying, some of our industry s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service.
There is status in being a cinema star; not nearly as much for being a small-screen actor.
A disaster waiting to happen
AT&T, Disney, and to a certain extent Comcast, whose Universal Pictures negotiated with AMC Entertainment to narrow the window of exclusivity down to just a few weeks, are risking bankrupting the theater industry for short-term gain.
