Cape Town - Members of the standing committee on health have disagreed with the advice of their own legal adviser on the issue of nominations of members of the Western Cape legislature to hospital boards in the province.
Legal adviser Romeo Maasdorp, who had been invited by the committee to its discussion of the implementation of the Western Cape Hospital Boards and Clinic Committees Act, told members the appointments were at the discretion of the Health MEC and the correct form was to wait for an invitation from her before nominating candidates.

Cape Town - A nine-year-old child was shot dead while playing with a police officer s firearm with two of her friends in Mbekweni at the weekend.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said a murder case was registered for investigation after a shooting incident on Friday night, at a premises in Drommedaris at Mbekweni, where the child was shot and fatally wounded.
According to a leaked police report, three minor children were invited to play at the officer s house, when he just arrived from work and took off his service pistol and put it on the sofa to fetch water.
Police officer Ashely Tabisher appeared in court alongside an alleged underworld figure, Nafiz Modack, on Tuesday morning. He was charged with corruption, together with three accomplices, including Modack.
