NEWTON TOWNSHIP - Singing is one of the riskier activities during a pandemic of a highly contagious airborne virus.
But that didn t stop Maysville choir director Ryan Hutcherson from keeping a beloved vocal arts program alive at the high school and middle school during the 2020-21 school year. I ve been so impressed with them, he said of his students. There s not as much taking it for granted per se there s just this deeper appreciation now.
Performing with masks and spacing out in a typically intimate activity made for a strange experience, but Hutcherson said his students rose to the occasion. His own work adapting the program this year also garnered him an Ohio Teacher of the Year nomination from the superintendent.
