It is based on the events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, in which eight climbers died in a blizzard, and focuses on the survival attempts of two expedition groups, one led by Kiwi Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and the other by American Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal). Director Baltasar Kormakur deviates from the true story but, in a dazzling piece of film making, brings the beauty and brutality of Everest to life. While a little slow at first, it’s still a good old fashioned adventure movie which builds to a devastating end. ★★★★

Members of the U.S. military work round-the-clock, 365 days a year to serve and protect the country. During the month of May, their efforts are acknowledged and appreciated during Military Appreciation Month.
Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for troops past and present, Military.com reports.
Several specific military holidays are celebrated throughout the month to culminate with Memorial Day on May 31.
