Cannabis legalization and other criminal justice reform strategies took center stage Wednesday in Gov. Tony Evers’ live stream discussion of his Badger Bounceback plan.
“This budget isn’t my budget, it’s your budget,” the governor said during the event. “Our justice system has put a strain on our state, and on our communities, and on our families for far too long.”
Over 200 people were listening to the address through a Zoom chat, though many more likely saw it on YouTube. While some attendees were from organizations like MICAH, a multi-ethnic interfaith organization, others were simply concerned residents. Once given an opportunity to share comments, many brought up cannabis legalization.

During a tour of the Milwaukee County Jail in January, Milwaukee County Supervisor
Ryan Clancy noticed that one of the staff members was wearing a mask with the symbol for the Marvel comic book character The Punisher.
This symbol, a white skull with four long teeth, Clancy told Urban Milwaukee, is associated with far-right and white supremacist groups and ideology. The symbol has been documented in news media as being worn by right-wing rioters at the U.S. Capitol in January

A Milwaukee County Parks woodland with rare old-growth trees is the focus of heated debate over new trail development meant to serve both mountain bikers and hikers. The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors role in oversight of parks is also at issue.
