Napa County decides timing wrong to explore commercial cannabis cultivation

Napa County is in no hurry to debate whether and under what conditions cannabis might someday be grown commercially in wine country. County Supervisor Brad Wagenknecht brought up the issue last week to the Board of Supervisors. He expressed concern that, if the county doesn’t act, supporters might pass a ballot measure. “I believe ordinances are a better way of governing than initiatives and that’s why I got into this at all,” he said. The county last year delayed exploring a possible commercial cannabis cultivation law because of the pandemic. Most supervisors on March 2 showed no interest in resuming the effort in the near future.

Napa County will develop rules to allow micro-wineries to offer wine tasting

After more than two years of trying, Save the Family Farms has convinced Napa County to take up the issue of micro-wineries, which amount to a more mom-and-pop approach to the wine world. The county will consider allowing farms making small amounts of wines to host tastings without building a winery, perhaps at a table overlooking a vineyard. A proposed law could be ready by August. Save the Family Farms has worked with elected officials and the wine industry to lay the groundwork for a possible micro-winery law. Last week, the Board of Supervisors agreed to explore the issue. Napa County supervisors to consider COVID-19 vaccine investigation

The Napa County Board of Supervisors is to soon consider investigating whether county processes allowed Supervisor Belia Ramos or others to jump the line to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Supervisor Diane Dillon brought the topic up at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. She described receiving comments from constituents on Ramos’ first-dose vaccination, a vaccination Ramos has said was proper. Dillon didn’t mention Ramos by name, referring instead to “one of our colleagues.” But Ramos later indicated she clearly understood the remarks as referring to her.
