LEWISTON Lewiston’s Charlotte Gastonguay was looking forward to Saturday morning’s girls lacrosse game against her old school, St. Dominic Academy, as the COVID-19 pandemic stopped her from playing against her old team last season.
Gastonguay got to play the Saints in field hockey as a Blue Devil this past fall, but she said lacrosse is her favorite sport.
“I really wanted to beat them,” Gastonguay said.
The senior scored early and often as the Blue Devils cruised to a 16-5 victory over their rivals, applying pressure on defense, scooping the majority of ground balls and moving the ball with a chemistry of a team that had been playing together for months, not in just its second game of the season.

AUBURN The Lewiston girls lacrosse team was eager to get on the field after a couple of stints in quarantine.
In their first game of the season, the Blue Devils’ offense made up for lost time in a 16-3 win over rival Edward Little at Walton Field on Friday.
Senior Charlotte Gastonguay led the attack with eight goals, along with two assists, while senior Brie Dube scored four goals and had three assists.
“We really worked well as a team and our tempo was really high,” Gastonguay said. “We always went super hard on the groundballs and on every play. I think that’s why we came out with the win because of our tempo of play and how we executed that.”
Red Hornets coach Dana Berube said Horton did well for a goalie playing her first career game.
“We have girl in net who has eight practices in her life,” Berube said of Horton. “Quite honestly, I thought she made some good saves … some rebound shots fell right to (Lewiston). She has a great attitude and she will continue to improve. This year is more about our seniors and girls who will be contributing the next a couple of years.”
Sophomore Leah Dube led Lewiston’s offense with a hat trick, and Rebecca Lussier contributed two goals and an assist.
Brie Dube opened up the scoring in first period for Lewiston (1-1), slipping the puck past Horton four minutes into the contest.
