Re-election of Gutwein Government
“We congratulate the Hon. Peter Gutwein MP and the Liberal Party on their re-election,” said Property Council Tasmanian Executive Director Rebecca Ellston.
“Tasmanians have made their choice and a re-elected Gutwein Government must now focus on helping our state reach its full potential over the next four years.
“A vital issue for this government is housing affordability – it is a major concern for all Tasmanians.
“We look forward to working with the Gutwein Government to urgently finalise the statewide planning scheme, incentivise first home buyers with a boost to the first home owners grant, and at a broader level conduct a thorough review of Tasmania’s tax system.

Property industry welcomes funding commitment for ‘Girls in Property’ program
The Property Council of Australia has welcomed a $25,000 funding commitment from the Tasmanian Liberals, if re-elected, to help fund a pilot program of the ‘Girls in Property’ initiative for Tasmanian high school students.
The Girls in Property program, which has been run in mainland states by the Property Council, raises awareness amongst high school students about the raft of career paths available in the property industry.
Property Council of Australia’s Tasmanian Division Executive Director, Rebecca Ellston said the program is aimed at encouraging greater female participation in the property industry.

First home owners boost puts more in pockets of tasmanians
The Property Council welcomes today’s major announcement by the Tasmanian Liberal Party to boost the First Home Owners Grant from $20,000 to $30,000 until 30 June 2022 if re-elected.
Tasmanian Executive Director Rebecca Ellston applauded the policy and said increasing the grant to $30,000 will deliver a boost to the construction industry, and supercharge the capacity of younger Tasmanians trying to break into the housing market.
“We know that younger Tasmanians in particular are facing big challenges in entering the housing market with the median dwelling value in Tasmania rising 12.5 per cent over the past 12 months alone. An increase to the First Home Owners Grant will go a long way in helping first home owners secure a home.”
