Fraley Earns First-Team All-ACC, Four Tigers Record Top 10 All-Time Marks

RALEIGH, N.C.  Areya Campbell (heptathlon), Harleigh White (triple jump), Veronica Fraley (shot put), and Leah Disher (800 meters) each registered top 10 all-time marks at Clemson during the second day of competition at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The final day of competition will begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. as Roje Stona contests the men’s discus. Veronica Fraley placed third in the women’s shot put competition after throwing 16.46 meters (54 feet, 0 inches) during the second round. Fraley’s performance improved her mark as the program’s No. 2 all-time performer. The third-place finish gave the Raleigh native the first first-team All-ACC honor of her career.

Cocco Scores in Javelin, Tigers Advance Eight to Finals on Thursday

RALEIGH, N.C. The Clemson track and field program scored its first point of the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and advanced eight athletes onto their respective finals during Thursday’s action at the Paul Derr Track Facility on the campus of NC State. Clemson will resume action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. as the final day of competition in the women’s heptathlon gets underway. Ethan Cocco got the Tigers on the scoreboard by placing eighth in the men’s javelin throw to open the championships on Thursday morning. The freshman from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., threw a personal best of 63.18 meters (207 feet, 3 inches) in the second round to become No. 7 all-time at Clemson. Cocco entered the meet occupying the No. 8 position with his previous best of 61.61m set during the Tennessee Challenge earlier in May. On Thursday, Cocco eclipsed the 60-meter mark on four of his six throws.

Greene County announces winners of annual art contest XENIA Greene County Children Services recently announced the winners of its Child Abuse Prevention Art Contest. The grand prize winner is Brynn Denton, a fifth-grade student at Fairborn Intermediate School. She was also one of the 12 winners as a fourth grader in last year’s contest. Denton will receive a $100 prize and her artwork will be featured on the cover of the 2022 Children Services calendar as well as on one of the monthly spreads inside the calendar. The annual contest is open to fourth and fifth graders at participating schools in Greene County. It was more of a challenge for schools to participate this school year due to remote learning situations at many of them. The agency received 115 entries from four Greene County schools, compared to nearly 250 entries from nine schools last year.

Tigers Garner Six Top-5 Finishes Friday at Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Clemson track and field program garnered six top-5 finishes across four events during the opening day of competition at UCF’s Knights Invite. In addition to competing well in their respective events, the Tigers combined to record three personal bests and three season’s bests during Friday’s action. “Everyone that raced today was very competitive, and that is what we’re asking for,” said Clemson’s Director of Track and Field Mark Elliott. “I think the effort today was pretty good… Tomorrow will be one of those days where the full group is here, and we’ll have our normal schedule of events.”
