Michael Warren, Gill McLean and Marcus A MAN has written a book inspired by his beloved King Charles cavalier spaniel – with the poems written from the point of view of Marcus the dog. Michael Warren, an IT engineer, has published his collection of Marcus poetry, called A Dog s Tale in Poetry, which includes 28 verses illustrated by Gill McLean. Mr Warren said: I have been planning this book for some six years now and had to wait for Marcus to do his thing before I could write a poetic verse for his actions, which obviously takes time. I initially thought to just write verses for a poem but friends of mine thought it might make a good book if I could illustrate the verses, and that is where Gill McLean came in.

Richmond Town Council has put together a survey, with the assistance of a professional market researcher, to discover how people feel about Richmond as a place to shop and visit. In particular, councillors want to know residents’ opinions on the 19th Century Market Hall, which hosts an indoor market that operates seven days a week throughout the year. The survey is part of efforts to increase use of the Grade-II listed building and ensure it has a sustainable future. The town council has already worked with the volunteer-run Richmond Information Centre (RIC) to create a modern new information facility for the town within the hall.
A SECOND guide to walks around Richmond has been published by volunteers after the first was a runaway success. Two years ago, the volunteer-run Richmond Information Centre published Richmond Walks, a guide to four popular outings from the town. Thousands of copies have been sold to residents and visitors, and a third printing is in hand. Since RIC moved into new premises in Richmond’s Market Hall, most visitors leave clutching a copy. Dozens of local walkers pitched in for a follow-up, many of them members of Richmondshire Ramblers or Swaledale Outdoor Club. When one contributor, Pam Heseltine, described “pootling round the local bridleways with friends”, the title came in a flash of revelation. The result was the new book, Pootling Round Richmond and Swaledale.
