Westland to invest in carbon emissions reductions New Zealand’s Westland Dairy Company Limited said it will use co-investment from the Government Investment in Decarbonising Industry (GIDI) Fund to accelerate plans to reduce carbon emissions produced by its Hokitika factory.
Westland will invest a total of NZ$3,216,000 (US$2.31m), including NZ$1,768,800 (US$1.27m) from the GIDI Fund, administered by EECA (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority), to reduce the Hokitika plant’s 116,000 tonnes of annual carbon emissions as part of work to be completed by October next year.
“This is an important step in our journey towards a low-carbon future,’’ Westland CEO Richard Wyeth said.

Westland Dairy Company Limitedâs new CEO Richard Wyeth is looking forward to bringing the strength of a global dairy giant to the opportunities that lie ahead for the West Coast dairy processor after taking up the leadership role this week.
Mr Wyethâs arrival at Westland yesterday was welcomed by resident director of Westland Dairy Company Limited, Shiqing Jian, who stepped down as interim CEO. Mr Jian served as interim CEO following the resignation of former Westland CEO Toni Brendish in August last year.
âWe hope Richard is as excited as we are about the opportunities that lie ahead for Westland as he takes stewardship of this iconic New Zealand company,ââ Mr Jian said.
