DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) At least 300 households in Tanzania s northwestern municipality of Bukoba in Kagera region have been made homeless after their houses were submerged by flash floods caused by ongoing rains, an official said on Friday.
Richard Gasper, a ward councilor for Miembeni ward in the municipality, said people were made homeless following the flooding, adding: We are waiting for relief supplies from the central government, The floods have not only submerged the houses, but they have also damaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges within the Bukoba municipality, said Gasper.
Students have been putting their heads down and looking tired after writing two or three hours at a stretch, teachers of several schools where on-campus exams are being held said.
Constant wearing of masks is only adding to the children’s woes and some have requested teachers to allow them to take off the face cover.
Students have lost the habit of writing for two to three hours at a stretch, especially in a “formal atmosphere”.
Ever since the campuses shut down last March as a precaution against Covid and schools switched to online classes and exams on digital platforms, students had been writing shorter papers.

KOLKATA: Schools in Bengal are likely to reopen their campuses for pupils in classes IX to XII from February 12, state education minister Partha Chatterjee said on Tuesday. A decision on junior classes will be taken later. The government is likely to issue a detailed school reopening SOP on Wednesday.
The minister has also scheduled a meeting with vice-chancellors of various universities on Wednesday to decide when higher education campuses would open.
Tuesday’s announcement would be a relief to pupils, especially the several lakh who are set to take this year’s Class X and XII board exams. Bengal is the only state where schools haven’t yet reopened, in some form or the other, since the abrupt shutdown last March, at the start of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
