Shoppers stuck at home shun new clothes in 2020

BBC News Published image copyrightGetty Images Shoppers bought far fewer clothes last year as lockdowns meant people had less opportunity to socialise and go out. Clothes sales slumped 25%, the biggest drop in 23 years when records began, official figures suggest. While shops have reported demand for certain clothing such as pyjamas and loungewear has risen, demand for going-out items has fallen sharply. And despite a pick-up in December, clothing sales remain lower than before the pandemic struck. With few opportunities to socialise during lockdown and many people working from home, the clothing sector has been one of the worst-affected by restrictions , the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

Clothes sales slump in worst year for shops on record

Clothes sales slump in worst year for shops on record UK retail sales saw their largest annual fall on record in 2020, driven by a slump in demand for fashion reports the BBC. Sales fell by 1.9% last year, when compared with 2019, the largest year-on-year fall since records began in 1997, official figures show. Clothes shops were hit hardest, with a record annual fall of more than 25%. The drop came despite a slight pick-up in December, as a brief easing of some lockdown measures meant more stores were able to open. Retail sales, including fuel, increased by 0.3% last month when compared with November.

Earlier this month, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) moved the AIMAG from May 2021 to March 2022 because of the coronavirus crisis. Lim, who is also Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation President, backed this and said athletes focus would now turn to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where possible. I think it is the best decision for the OCA to postpone it and then move it to a later date where the vaccines are already available for everybody, Lim said, as reported by the state-run

Karate team also has SEA Games in mind in bubble

Speaking at Tuesday’s online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum, Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation, Inc. President Richard Lim shared that apart from the Olympics, they also have their eyes on the SEA Games in November in Vietnam. “November may still be far, but for an athlete preparing for the SEA Games, that’s near,” said Mr. Lim, who was one of the guests in the forum along with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) National Training Director Mark Velasco.
