Low voter turnout is shameful
Dan Tackett
It surely seems I’ve been down this road before, but here I go once again. And I’m still as puzzled as I was on previous trips.
The central focus here is voter turnout. Actually, it’s all about the lack of voter turnout when it comes to citizen decision-making when it comes to choosing leaders for the city of Lincoln. What prompts this voyage down this familiar passage are the numbers registered this week in the city’s Republican primary election for mayor and in one ward for nomination to run for an aldermanic seat.

Tracy Welch and Rick Hoefle were winners after voters went to the polls Tuesday to determine who will be on the ballot in April for Lincoln s next mayor.
Tracy Welch, who has served as the acting mayor after Seth Goodman resigned in June, won with 340 votes representing 84.16% against Steve Messner who received 64 votes at 15.84%. A total of 404 people cast their votes out of a possible 9,053 making voter turnout 4.5%.
Welch said he was grateful for the support of the people from Lincoln. I would like to thank everybody for their support, confidence and vote in Tuesday s Primary Election. I have proudly served as Ward 1 Alderman and Acting Mayor and I consider it a great honor to be able to continue serving the people of Lincoln as Mayor. Letters: Vote in the Primary Election
Lincoln Courier
Dear Editor,
As a volunteer for the Citizens to Elect Richard Hoefle Committee, I am writing to recommend Rick Hoefle for City Council, Ward 4 Alderman. I have met very few people whose professional accomplishments are so impressive. Mr. Hoefle has spent 35 years as an investigator, litigator and auditor investigating fraud in the insurance industry. He has never been afraid to speak up, voice his concerns, and criticizewhen he felt appropriate. But most importantly, if he criticizes, he also offers solutions.
He is also quite active volunteering in the community. The Oasis, Odd Fellows Day Care, Susan G. Komen Center, Special Olympics, and St. Jude’s is a small sampling of the organizations benefiting from Rick’s support through the years.
