NC single family zoning could be transformed by middle housing bills

Though Kenilworth Forest lies directly behind a major mall, the neighborhood feels divorced from the hum of nearby commercial activity. Secluded by rows of trees and a glistening lake, the small community of 99 houses in Asheville is set on sloped terrain, with a narrow main street that culminates in a dead-end. “There’s only one way in and one way out so everybody’s having to say hi,” said resident Rick Freeman. “It’s quiet and super friendly.” It was this tranquility that motivated Freeman, a former General Electric executive, to purchase a mid-century modern ranch home in the community four years ago when he and his wife were looking to retire to Asheville.

HANCOCK The Copper Country ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Technology class worked with the Houghton County Fair Board and the Timber Trails Riding Club to put together the new announcer’s booth at the horse ring on the fairgrounds equipped with much-needed storage. The CCISD CTE programs appreciated the opportunity to work with the community on projects like this for the benefit of both the students and the organizations. Students in the CTE program gained real world building and problem-solving skills by putting together a quality project that both the fair, and those who utilize the grounds, will benefit from for years to come.

Enterprise council gets update on chief search

ENTERPRISE — The Enterprise City Council received an update on the city’s search for a new police chief, Monday, Jan. 11, as well as saw new officials sworn in and former officials honored. City Administrator Lacey McQuead reminded the council the police chief’s position was reopened Jan. 4 after the city rescinded an offer to Seaside Police Chief David Ham. The new search for a chief will be “open until closed,” rather than having a deadline for applications. McQuead also reminded the council the city has the option of entering the Linebacker Program with Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police, which provides police departments with leadership when a vacancy has occurred. She said she will follow up with an update at the February meeting.
