SANDIGANBAYAN Associate Justice Geraldine Faith A. Econg described in a Manila news site as “Cebu-based,” having served in the Cebu Regional Trial Court and Cebu City municipal trial courts – was interviewed via Zoom by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) Wednesday morning, June 2. She and 14 other applicants are vying for the seat vacated by Alexander Gesmundo who was appointed chief justice of the Supreme Court last April.
Former Cebu fourth district Representative Benhur Salimbangon, 75, died Thursday after a “long battle with cancer.”

“With heavy hearts, we are informing everyone that at the Lord’s hour of 3:00 pm, Congressman Benhur L. Salimbangon has concluded his 75 years of existence. After a long battle with cancer, he has passed peacefully with his family by his side,” said Salimbangon’s son Francis in a Facebook post.
“Up until his last breath, Cong. Benhur fought a good fight; but now, God has him back in his Kingdom as His warrior,” added Francis, a provincial board member.
Salimbangon died more than a month after the passing of Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar.

+ December 11, 2020 In my previous column, I already suggested to the incumbent leadership at the Cebu City Government and various institutions like the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) to honor the late Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar. I urged the City Council to name a street after him. (Renaming a national street needs congressional approval). Sculptures or human-size statues of del Mar should be installed at the CPA and the airport. An annex building inside the VSMMC compound should be named after him.
I think I can say this without fear of contradiction that del Mar introduced developments in his district, specifically, and in the entire city, in general.
