ILKLEY S Tom Adams added to his winning tally as he made the perfect start to the new Golden Trail National Series UK by landing the opening event in the South Downs National Park on Saturday. He clocked an astonishing time of three hours, 15 minutes and 58 seconds for the 50km route across hills, heath and woodland in Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. Starting from Haslemere, he crossed the line in Petersfield just over three minutes ahead of Keswick AC s Brennan Townshend. Next up in the series is the Scafell Pike Marathon in August. Adams trip to the South Downs meant he was absent from the Blencathra Fell Race the same day, a brutal 13km route featuring 825m of ascent, which acted as the English Championships this year.

Leander athletes set the pace at GB closed trials );

LEANDER athletes had success at last weekend’s two-day GB closed trials held at Dorney Lake.
The Henley-based club had 26 senior and U23 club based athletes from its development squad invited to trial across all four categories in this invitational only event.
The format was slightly different to normal, skipping the traditional semi-final races with crews being placed directly into the finals from time trial results.
First up was the men’s pairs where Leander had two crews racing. Ryan Todhunter and James Vogel placed third in the time trial and achieved fourth place in the A final while Iwan Hadfied and Dan Graham came eighth in the time trial and then won the B final to place as the second fastest U23 pair.
