A Cahir Sergeant says he’s surprised by the findings of a Garda operation which targeted the sale of alcohol to young people.
The operation saw Gardaí assisted by an underage member of the public checking to see if they could buy alcohol at 10 premises in the district.
Seven out of the 10 made the sale without asking for identification.
Businesses are being reminded that the sale of alcohol to an under 18 is an offence, and that it’s also an offence for anybody to buy alcohol for an under 18.
Sergeant Ray Moloney explains the reason for the operation.

Sgt Ray Moloney says Community Gardaà in Cahir are available to help anyone who may be having difficulties registering online.
âThe age group is in the 60s and some people mightnât be as computer savvy as others in the community.â
âSo weâre just asking people who would prefer to have assistance in filling out the registration form online to contact Cahir Gardaà at 052 7445630 a member of the Community Policing team will be in contact with them to talk them through the difficulties they might be having.â
Gardaí say they will work with Tipperary County Council towards a prosecution after another significant case of illegal dumping near Cahir.
