Ray Middle School briefly in ‘lockout’ when man was spotted nearby with rifle

Van Buren, N.Y. A man spotted in the woods with a hunting rifle caused Ray Middle School in Van Buren to briefly got into a lockout this morning, according to an alert from the school principal.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at 8:29 a.m. to the area of Maple and Van Buren roads near the school, according to the Onondaga County 911 Center.
Police notified school officials that there was a man spotted in the nearby woods carrying a hunting rifle so the school went into a lock out, school principal Christina Morgan told parents in a recorded call. All the students were inside the school at the time, she said.

Moonlight Skiing and Snowshoeing at Beaver Lake
The ten miles of trails at Beaver Lake Nature Center will remain open late this weekend (until 9 p.m. and if there is adequate snow on the ground) to allow skiers and snowshoers a chance to enjoy them under the stars and moonlight. Organizers ask participants to sign in and out and bring a friend and a flashlight. Social distancing when necessary and masks are required.
