The Brownwood Municipal Development Directors Board of Directors on Tuesday afternoon approved the sale of up to 26.369 acres of land to Trafalgar Homes for development of housing dependent upon a fair market price.
“The MDD owns some property south of town off FM 45 and we have a housing developer, Trafalgar Homes, interested in buying it for development,” said Ray Tipton, BMDD Executive Director. “They haven’t worked out their entire development yet, but they’ve asked us if we’d be interested in selling some property to them. That’s what the approval was today, subject to fair market appraisal, it’s contingent on that.”

The Clinchfield Railroad Historical Society will induct two new members into the Clinchfield Hall of Fame on Saturday.
A.J. Peoples and his late father, Jack Peoples, will be the first father-son duo to be inducted into the Clinchfield Hall of Fame; the Hall of Fame recognizes those who have had long careers working for the Clinchfield or CSX Railroad.
âThe Clinchfield Hall of Fame was organized in 1995 by the founder, the late James A. Goforth, to perpetuate and keep alive the memory of the Clinchfield Railroad,â said Martha Erwin, curator of the Clinchfield Railroad Museum.
The inductees of the Clinchfield Hall of Fame are chosen by a committee of three based on letters of recommendation written to the Clinchfield Railroad Historical Society on the nomineesâ behalf.
Greg Adkins stepping down as Lee County schools superintendent
He announced his plans to retire in a message to district staff Friday morning.
Adkins, 56, has served as superintendent since 2015, making his tenure the second longest in recent history behind James Browder, who served from 2003 to 2010. Serving as superintendent in Lee County for the last five and half years has been truly an honor and privilege beyond my highest expectation, Adkins wrote in the message.
His tenure as chief of schools is marked by successes he enumerated in the letter to employees, but his leadership was questioned by a few school board members who ran campaigns to remove him from office.
