Ash Properties wants to start work on remodeling the former Kmart along 9600 San Jose Blvd. toward converting it into a retail center for multiple uses.
Jacksonville-based Ash Properties applied to the city for a permit for interior and exterior remodeling on the 95,662-square-foot building at a cost of $762,548.
The work comprises interior demolition, storefront work, roofing and other work to convert the building into an empty shell in preparation for tenant build-out.
Ash Properties also wants to expand the building by 16,011 square feet to 111,673 square feet of space, plans show.
Ash Construction LLC is the contractor for the project, shown on the permit application at $762,548.

Super LTD, Neon s boutique distribution division, has acquired the North American rights to Gianfranco Rosi’s documentary
Notturno after a debut at Venice and play at the virtual Telluride, Toronto and New York film festivals.
The film, shot over three years across Lebanon, Iraq, Kurdistan and Syria, was named by Italy to represent the country in the 2021 Oscar best international feature race. Rosi s previous documentary,
Fire at Sea, which looked at refugees crossing the Mediterranean to reach Europe, was nominated for what was then the best foreign-language film Oscar in 2017, but did not win.

“Notturno,” the documentary from Gianfranco Rosi and Italy’s Oscar submission to the Best International Film race, has landed a North American release from Super LTD, the boutique division and incubator from Neon.
“Notturno” was shot over three years in the Middle East and observes how people there have been affected by war and by ISIS. It premiered at Venice earlier this fall and also played Toronto, New York and was selected for Telluride. It won three awards at Venice including the Cinema for UNICEF award and has already been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Documentary Award.
