Denver s Holland House, made entirely of concrete, a quirky slice of history

Jan 25, 2021, 6:00 am 2.8K Shares The historic Holland House, at 2340 S. Josephine St., was completed in 1933. (Provided by Pam Nunez) When historic houses go on the market, it’s a chance to take stock of and, if we’re lucky, get a look inside some of Denver’s best buildings. It’s also an opportunity to recognize how the rules around architectural preservation work to keep crucial, civic structures from being razed or ruined in a time when urban development is off the rails. That’s the case for the Holland House, one of the more interesting, if lesser-known, dwellings on the city’s list of important landmarks. The house, at 2340 S. Josephine St., is among a number of early 20th century treasures that make University Park one of Denver’s most design-rich, residential neighborhoods.

Darren Aronofsky is Adapting Samuel D Hunter s THE WHALE for the Big Screen

The New York premiere of The Whale played at Playwrights Horizons in 2012. On the outskirts of Mormon Country, Idaho, a six-hundred pound recluse (Mr. Hensley) hides away in his apartment eating himself to death. Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen. Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale tells the story of a man s last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places. Writing in The Denver Post on the World Premiere of The Whale at Denver Center Theatre in January, Ray Mark Rinaldi called it, A rich night of theater. Very much a play of today and audiences ready to engage the times should understand its rewards.
