Arnprior, Ont councillor could face 30-day pay suspension over Facebook comment

ARNPRIOR, ONT. Tensions are running high at Arnprior town hall over the continued discussion of racism in the community. Councillor Lisa McGee is facing a possible reprimand after a complaint was lodged with the town’s integrity commissioner, William Hunter. The anonymous complaint is about a Facebook post McGee wrote on Dec. 18 in the group “What’s Up, Arnprior”. The post was in reaction to a local news article about Mayor Walter Stack’s alleged plan to address racism claims in the community. In her post, McGee criticized the mayor for not sharing his plan with council ahead of time:

Public Broadcaster story sparks Valley reaction

The recent CBC story on Racism in the Valley is making waves at local municipal council chambers. The Town of Arnprior has already released a statement under the signature of Chief Administrative Officer Robin Paquette, and Renfrew Mayor Don Eady says his Council will be discussing the matter Tuesday as part of the regular municipal agenda. Eady will speak on behalf of Renfrew Council following the session. Paquette indicates that Mayor, Council and staff in Arnprior are committed to incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion in the delivery of municipal services, and as community members and human beings it is on us to fight against racism.
