SIR – On Saturday I visited my favourite pub for the first time since mid-December. The staff had carefully organised everything and the beer tasted like nectar.
The pub, which is not big, was busy and there was a lot of talking and laughter. As I sat there sipping my pint, I couldn’t help wondering why Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary, and the Public Health England enforcers believe it’s safe for me to be in such an environment but that it would have been too risky for me to mingle the evening before with fewer than 30 people at a socially distanced choir practice with strict Covid protocols.
The Most Memorable Day in Town’s History
Saturday, 5th May 2018 18:06 by Mel Henderson
As Sunday’s 40th anniversary of Town’s 1978 FA Cup triumph approaches,
Mel Henderson, the club’s public relations officer at the time, recalls that great day, the run which took the Blues to Wembley and how he came to be among those sitting on the bench during the final.
May 6th, 1978, was undoubtedly the most memorable day in the history of our favourite club.
I’m not forgetting what must have been an unforgettable climax to a fairytale 1961/62 season as Alf Ramsey’s team were crowned Football League champions, or the treasured memories of May 1981 when Town fans turned Amsterdam blue and white in recognition of the club’s outstanding success in capturing the UEFA Cup.

Tuesday, 23rd Apr 2019 12:12
Russell Osman will be hosting screenings of
Escape to Victory on June 12th and 13th at Greshams to raise funds for The Beat Goes On, the campaign for a statue of Blues legend Kevin Beattie, who was Michael Caine’s body double in the 1981 John Huston-directed film.
Osman, who played prisoner of war Doug Clure, will be joined by other members of the cast, including John Wark, who was cast as POW Arthur Hayes, and Laurie Sivell, who was German keeper Schmidt, to recall tales from the making of the film.
