A hole was felt in the hearts of May Roberts Elementary School students and staff when they got word of the death of sixth-grade teacher Elizabeth âEffieâ Tucker in 2019 due to complications from cancer. To help fill that hole and provide students a source of support, school leaders have installed a bench on the campusâ east playground to be dedicated in her honor.
The Argus was invited to the school learn more about âMs. Tuckerâs buddy benchâ on April 22. According to Principal Marshell Hooker, the bench came about after Tuckerâs family directed memorial funds to the school in her honor.
FOND DU LAC - A civil rights lawsuit filed against the Fond du Lac School District in December 2019 by a former high school principal has been extended to allow for more time, given difficulties associated with scheduling last year.
Michelle Hagen, former principal at both Fond du Lac High School and Roberts Elementary, contends in her lawsuit filed in Wisconsin Eastern District Federal Court that the school district discriminated against her because of her gender and deprived her of employment opportunities that adversely affected her status as an employee, court records state.
The school district also discriminated against Hagen, who was then 54 years old, on the basis of age, according to the lawsuit, by replacing her in the high school principal position with a male more than 10 years younger than her.
