The 21-year veteran of the Greenfield Police Department has accepted the chief position in East Longmeadow and is set to start Jan. 19, four days after his last shift in Greenfield. “It was a really hard decision. It was emotional. A lot of tears were shed by me, in talking with people about it,” he said this week. “It’s more than just a job. But after a lot of thought and prayer and speaking with a lot of important people in my life, I feel very comfortable and assured this is the best decision and the right decision for my family.

Greenfield police, fire look to buy radios, join statewide system STRAHAN Related stories GREENFIELD If the City Council approves money for new radios for the fire and police departments, Greenfield should be able to connect to the statewide radio system sometime early next year. The council will do a first reading of the request from fire and police at its meeting Wednesday and will vote on the issue in January. Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan said if all goes well, $163,000 will be provided from the city’s free cash account to fund the capital project, which has been discussed by the two departments for more than a year.
