Updated 10am Thursday 22 July The NSWRL would like to provide the following update for Major and Community Competitions across the Greater Sydney region (Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour) following the advice on Wednesday 14 July from the NSW Government to extend the tightened restrictions to combat the COVID-19 outbreak for a further two weeks until 30 July 2021. Recent lockdown advice across Cabonne, Blayney and Orange shire have resulted in suspensions to the following Leagues (refer to competition updates in link below): Group 10 Seniors and Juniors Woodbridge Cup Lachlan District Group 7 will plan a return to play in areas out of lockdown by Saturday 31 July.

Judge drops contempt case against Colorado Springs public defender after COVID-19 protest

A judge Thursday vacated his contempt finding against a public defender sanctioned in October after citing a countywide coronavirus infection spike in refusing an order to represent his client at trial. The reversal by 4th Judicial District Judge Robert Lowrey averted what was supposed to be a sentencing hearing for Adam Steigerwald, a 13-year veteran of the Colorado Springs branch of the Office of Colorado State Public Defender. I am satisfied that a lesson has been learned,  Lowrey told Steigerwald in throwing out the contempt finding, which could have resulted in six months in jail and a fine. There are better ways to handle these things than what happened in this courtroom.

Former Dragons coach gets new gig

Monday, March 1, 2021 Paul McGregor has picked up his first rugby league coaching gig since leaving St George Illawarra, taking over as NSW s under-19s State of Origin mentor. McGregor was announced as part of the Blues pathways system on Sunday, following on from Geoff Toovey s return to the coach s box as assistant with the NSW women s side. The ex-NSW centre declared last year he was still at the beginning of his coaching journey when he resigned from the Dragons during his seventh season after immense pressure on his position. The 53-year-old focused largely on personal matters over the summer, and has not taken up a role as an assistant at any NRL club for 2021.
