Smart City Expo will be Thursday in Early

City of Early to Host Smart City Expo

Thursday, May 13, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McDonald Park. This event is a family friendly, fun way to see how your city works smart to meet the needs and expectations of its citizens. You can meet Mayor Robert Mangrum, the city council members, and the men and women who work hard day to day to make the City of Early a great place. The concept of the Expo is simple and fun. Departments from around the city and community partners will have a booth set up around the track at McDonald Park, which is located at 101 Park St. These booths will have information about the departments, equipment and technology they use to accomplish their work, and a lot of cool vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, excavation equipment and other awesome things. Kids, and adults who still act like kids, can sit in, touch, and interact with the equipment operators.

Keith Taylor Memorial unveiled at Early Elementary

Memorial Dedicated in Early Honoring Keith Taylor

More than 100 people gathered in front of the Early Elementary School Tuesday afternoon as the Keith Taylor Memorial was unveiled.  Early Elementary School Principal Sharon Watson served as the guest speaker and shared memories of Taylor’s contributions. Taylor, who passed away on June 30, 2020 at the age of 65, worked for the Early ISD for more than 20 years. Taylor was a passionate fourth-grade teacher prior to his retirement and later was heavily involved with the robotics program and drove the bus for several out of town extracurricular events. The brainchild of the Early Community Future Problem Solvers and constructed by Josh Daignault, the memorial consists of a telescope on a tripod sitting on three stars. Also included was a plaque that reads “Keith Taylor taught us to reach for the stars,” along with a quote from Albert Einstein, “Numerous are the academic professors, but rare are wise and noble teachers.” 2 Corinthians 12; 9-10 is also included on the plaque t
