Can you tell us a bit about yourselves? Ellis: My name is Ellis and I live at Ladyyard Farm, Mauchline, with my Dad, Stuart, Mum Fiona and little brother, Ellis. We milk around 200 Holstein dairy cows. I am in 3rd year at Robert Burns Academy. Unfortunately, I haven’t attended school very much in the last year due to Covid, but I have made the most of it and enjoyed my time at home helping my dad on the farm. I love working with the calves on the farm and I have led calves since I was about three years old and I could not imagine my life without cows and my pony, Breeze. I’m definitely more a cows girl than a tractors girl, when it comes to farm work.
What type of farm do you and your family live on? We live at Auchinbay Farm, Ochiltree, Cumnock. It s me, my Dad, my Mum and my younger brother Jamie. We have a mixed dairy farm which has 330 milking cows on it, and we also rear 140 store bullocks. How did you first get started showing livestock? I really started showing livestock as soon as I could walk! In the beginning, when I was much smaller, my dad helped me in the calf class at Ochiltree show. As well as Ochiltree, I have also shown at Catrine show a few times, and once at Ayr show.
