OPINION: Seven steps to get back in shape during May

1. If you don’t want to buy new clothes till you’ve lost some weight, treat yourself to something small like a scarf, tie, aftershave or a lipstick. You could do with a treat, so have one. It will perk you up. 2. At breakfast, swap toast or a sugary cereal for porridge. It’s great for providing a slow release of energy so you can get through the morning without snacking. Eat it with salt the Scottish way. Or add some juicy fruits like blueberries. A spoonful of honey is also fine, but don’t use loads of syrup or sugar. Porridge contains good stuff like Vitamin B1 and B5, phosphorus, zinc and iron. And if you’re keen to drop a few pounds, you can make it with water rather than milk.

Letters: time for Starmer to pump up the volume | Keir Starmer

Enough rhetoric: if the Labour leader wants to create a better future, he must act Keir Starmer’s Labour ‘must make palpable a post-carbon society that offers something for all.’ Photograph: Christopher Furlong/Getty Images Keir Starmer’s Labour ‘must make palpable a post-carbon society that offers something for all.’ Photograph: Christopher Furlong/Getty Images Sun 11 Apr 2021 01.00 EDT There is little to object to in Keir Starmer’s article; there is even less to be inspired by, or to set the blood racing (“We must be bold and end the idea that inequality is inevitable. Let’s get Britain working again”, Opinion). Faced with a government doing more to dismantle democracy than any in living memory and abusing its position to favour friends and supporters, surely this is a time to stand tall and proud for the values that matter.
