Date Time City of Launceston considers new flag policy The City of Launceston will next week consider a new Flying of Flags policy which would see the Aboriginal flag flown permanently alongside the Australian flag on the Town Hall and Albert Hall. Should the new policy be adopted, it would pave the way for planning applications to be lodged in order to allow additional flagpoles on the roofs of both buildings. The Aboriginal flag is already flown by the Council each day at the city’s premier cultural institution, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, as well as at Home Point on the banks of the kanamaluka / Tamar Estuary.

Community Heritage Grants Recipients 2018 The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, genealogical and historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups. The grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned, but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessible including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and audio visual material. In 2018, 60 grants were awarded, totalling $367,470. Australian Capital Territory

National Aboriginal Art Gallery Senior Director appointed

NT Government Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Chansey Paech has announced the appointment of a Senior Director to lead the delivery of the National Aboriginal Art Gallery. Tracy Puklowski will take up the role on 24 May 2021. Ms Puklowski will be responsible for leading a project team of five officers with various skills across curatorial, engagement and project management. She will also provide input into the design of the art gallery; develop content and programming; and engage with stakeholders in Alice Springs, and nationally, to ensure the ongoing success of the gallery. Ms Puklowski has extensive knowledge about the arts, museum and culture sectors, demonstrated throughout her career which includes senior roles at museums, libraries and archives across New Zealand and in Australia.
