Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, April 28 : The Poland-bound national men and women s relay squads were grounded by the Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) on Wednesday due to rising Covid-19 cases in India. The national men s 4x400m and women s 4x100 relay squads were supposed to compete in World Relays in the Polish city of Chorzow on May 1 and 2. They were to reach Chorzow via Amsterdam. However, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) was informed by KLM that the Indian athletes can t board the flight to Amsterdam from Mumbai due to latest travel restrictions imposed on Indian travellers by the Netherlands government.

The 28-year-old Uttar Pradesh international thrower looked in good form after having recorded a throw of 61.45m in her opening throw meet at Patiala s National Institute of Sports (NIS). But on her third attempt, she hurled the javelin to a distance of 63.24 metres which was better than her own meet record of 62.34 metres, set in 2019.

In the five-day first major competition of the season, over 500 aspiring athletes from across the country are expected to compete. The biggest draw will be the men s 400 metres that has attracted 54 entries, and of these, 17 are from Haryana. The first round of the men s 400m will take place in the morning session while the semi-finals are slated for the post lunch session.
