Police kill ‘innocent’ car rider; 5 arrested

ISLAMABAD: Five members of Islamabad Police’s anti-terror squad were arrested on Saturday after a young man was allegedly shot dead by them while travelling in his vehicle.
The youth, identified as Usama Nadeem Satti was going back home after dropping his cousin at about 1:45am at NUST University, H-11, but ATS comprising five personnel led by an assistant sub-inspector, intercepted him but he allegedly did not stop the car, consequently the police gunmen chased the car and riddled his car with bullets.
“Seven bullets hit him in different parts of his body including head and chest,” the spokesman for PIMS told The News.

Pakistan s capital Islamabad and its twin city Rawalpindi are in a state of shock, after a 22-year-old student was shot dead by trigger-happy policemen, who opened heavy fire on his car for allegedly not stopping on their call.
Usama Nadeem Satti, who was going home after dropping his cousin at National University of Science & Technology (NUST) in Sector H-11 Islamabad, was intercepted by at least five personnel of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). He did not allegedly stop the car, leading to the ATS personnel riddling the car with bullets.

ISLAMABAD: The new mayor of Islamabad, to be elected on December 28, will hold office for just six weeks a period equal to the unexpired portion of the mayor’s five-year term. In October, Sheikh Ansar Aziz, belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had handed in his resignation as the mayor of the federal capital metropolitan corporation (MC).
Following his resignation, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold elections to fill the vacancy, even if for a few weeks. Ansar Aziz was elected on February 15, 2016 for a five-year tenure, which expires on the same day next year. He had taken oath on March 4. The person elected in his place will hold the position for the remaining period only.

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development ahead of the election on the vacant seat of capital’s mayor, three potential candidates are out of the electoral race even before submission of their nomination papers.
All the three deputy mayors belonging to the ruling PML-N in Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) - Azam Khan, Syed Zeeshan Naqvi and Chaudhry Riffat Javed - were supposed to contest the election but they were told that only chairmen, vice chairmen and members of union councils (UCs) can contest the polls for the office of mayor.
The seat fell vacant on Oct 1 after the surprised resignation of Sheikh Anser Aziz. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all set to hold the election on Dec 28.
