Malaysian-born and KL based Wei Peow is a director at Directors Think Tank, a leading production company with offices around the region including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Campaign Brief Asia put 15 questions to Wei Peow to find out more about him and his approach to directing.
When Wei Peow isn’t directing, he can be found cycling or riding his motorbike beyond the city.
1. What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is also the most challenging part to me, referencing and ideation. I like the feeling of exacting the “essences” whether from life experiences or references, incorporate them, and apply them in my treatment to elevate the work. While that happen, my brain branches out more solution options and potential executions. That keep me excited and ambitious to continue.

When the 28-year director isn’t directing – which sometimes includes editing and second camera – he can be found playing football with his local team (pre-pandemic).
1. What’s your favorite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is being on set because I love the adrenaline rush and being able to see my ideas come to life right in front of me is an experience that I can never get bored of.

“Winning an award is welcome recognition for great work. But many things go into a winning campaign. A great brief, a brave client and a dedicated team which believes excellence is the only game worth playing. McDonald’s Indonesia wanted to be a source of warmth this Ramadan, especially when people will be spending yet another Ramadan under restrictions. Leo Burnett Indonesia partnered with Directors Think Tank to release a series of initiatives to help spread positivity.
Starting with the understanding that Ramadan communication always celebrated the values of togetherness and kindness but another key pillar of the festival which is forgiveness linked to a time of self-reflection is largely overlooked. This insight was used to deepen our connection with our consumers by apologizing for the year gone by, the birthdays missed, break fasting moments skipped, or just the everyday celebrations which McDonald’s was always a part of but couldn’t be in 2020.
