The Rockton-Roscoe Rotary Club will host their first-ever ROTARY RIBFEST on Saturday, July 17th from 12pm-3pm in South Beloit. The ROTARY RIBFEST will be held in the Viking Lanes parking lot, 210 Oak Grove Ave, just off Blackhawk Blvd. in South Beloit. Admission is $10 per person and includes yummy rib samples and sides. Five local Fire Departments will be competing for the ultimate rack of ribs, including: Harlem Roscoe; City of Beloit; South Beloit; Rockton Fire Protection District; and North Park Fire Protection District. All proceeds from this fundraiser event will go to the Rotary Scholarship Fund. ROCKTON - The air and water around the June 14 Chemtool industrial fire are safe, according to tests conducted by state and local officials.
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency officials and members of the Illinois National Guard took samples of ash, runoff, well water and river water from around the site of the fire as well as in the immediate area.
All but one sample a wipe sample from a location in close to the Chemtool property - tested below the residential exposure limit, according to a news release issued Friday.
Illinois EPA also collected samples from various locations in the community water supply following the fire. Each of the wells used as a water source for Rockton residents were sampled, along with the finished water storage tank located adjacent to the fire. No negative impacts to the community water supply were identified, the news release said.

Rockton Fire Protection District recently released additional details on the explosion and fire at the Chemtool lubricants production plant in Rockton, IL on June 14 and said the cause and origin of the fire was deemed accidental in nature.
Chief Kirk Wilson said in a release dated June 25 that a project to replace insulation on an elevated heat transfer piping network was underway at the time of the incident. The pipes carried heated mineral oil to heat certain vessels used to provide lubricating greases.
