Updated: Share Article AAA Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will organise Vishwa Beary Sammelan in Dubai in this November, according to chairman of the academy Rahim Uchil. Beary is an ethnic Muslim community, concentrated largely in coastal Karnataka and parts of North Kerala, from the Chandragiri in Kerala to Barkuru in Udupi, with its own distinct traditions and language. According to the academy, over 20 lakh people speak Beary all over the world. Mr. Uchil said that in addition to West Asian countries, the Beary-speaking people are spread out in large numbers in Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Canada, the U.S. and London in the U.K.

Addressing presspersons on Friday, he said the event would be organised at Madani PU College. Poet Ali Kunhi Pare will be the president of the sammelana. Social activist Harekala Hajabba will inaugurate it. There will be two literary sessions and two ‘kavi gosthis’. In addition, speech, cooking, and mehandi competitions will be conducted. In all, 15 achievers will be felicitated. The academy has plans for a Vishwa Beary Sammelana.

Varsity proposes to offer courses in Beary art forms Mangaluru, Updated: Mangaluru, Updated: Share Article Mangalore University at Konaje.   Mangalore University has proposed to introduce certificate and diploma courses on Beary art forms from the 2021-22. Beary is an ethnic Muslim community, concentrated largely in coastal Karnataka, with its own distinct traditions and language. The university issued a notification on January 28 constituting a committee for drafting the curriculum and regulations to introduce the courses. The committee is headed by Udaya Barkuru, Dean, Faculty of Arts. Rahim Uchil, chairman, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, said that on September 16, 2020, the academy had written to the university requesting it to introduce the courses covering Beary art forms like Duff, Burda, Oppane, Kolkali and Mehendi. If courses are introduced on Beary art forms they would help to sustain the art forms, he said.
