We ve passed the halfway point of 2021, everybody. We re seeing a lot of major delays this year so far. Which gives some smaller games room to shine. It even gives some mediocre AAA games room to shine as well. (I m not criticizing any of our choices, because hey, we like what we like.) But the Pandemic Shutdown of 2020 has barely gotten its wheels spinning again during this Post-Pandemic Slowdown of 2021. Will the world ever get back to 100%? Probably not this year. But there are still games that have made our day. At least our first half. We re not saying these are the best games ever, go buy them, go go go. But we are saying that they showed us a good time.

Every year the conversation lingers about whether E3 should even exist. Despite that, it took a global pandemic in 2020 to actually cancel E3 s 25-year run. But E3 is back. In the form of an all-digital event running from June 12–15. It ll be live press conferences and a four-day-long video stream. What do we think is going to come out of E3 2021? Here are our safe, risky, and way-out-there predictions for what is still the biggest video game conference in the industry.

In response to an increase in carjackings and violent crime in Chicago, an Illinois legislator is looking to ban the sale of all violent video games in the state. Arcade classic Frogger will become a game show. A game show about dodging high-speed traffic? What could possibly go wrong? And rapper Soulja Boy is (again) attempting to introduce (another) console into a market that still 100% remembers his rebranded Chinese consoles from 2018.
