Garbage Truck Driver Saves Puppy Abandoned in Thrown Out Backpack and Decides to Adopt Her

Garbage Truck Driver Saves Puppy Abandoned in Thrown Out Backpack and Decides to Adopt Her People 1/28/2021 A Rumpke Waste & Recycling truck driver s keen eye saved a puppy s life. On Wednesday morning, Aaron Kinsel was working his route in Colerain Township, outside Cincinnati, when he noticed a discarded backpack on the side of the road. After further investigation, he discovered an abandoned 10-week old puppy inside the bag, per a press release from Rumpke. I felt like I was meant to find her, Kinsel said. According to the waste management company, the female boxer-mix was suffering from dehydration and a broken leg when Kinsel found her.

How and Why Rumpke Expanded From MRF to Glass Processing

When Rumpke Waste & Recycling started collecting glass at its materials recovery facilities (MRF) in the early 2000’s it had very limited end markets. But the Cincinnati, Ohio-based company kept taking it in, and then in 2004 opened a glass processing plant in Dayton, still with unwanted glass stockpiling in its yard. The risky corporate decision to start cleaning, separating, and refining this waste stream is paying off. Municipalities want someone to take it off their hands, and for the last several years some businesses are looking to snatch as much of this cheap, recycled content as they can. Now Rumpke gets glass from four internal MRFs and some customers and, even so, can’t keep up with the demand, which is coming from the container and fiberglass industries, says Steve Sargent, director of Recycling for Rumpke Waste & Recycling.

Rumpke now accepting some #5 plastics • The Yellow Springs News

Beginning this month, villagers can divert a few more items away from their trash cans: Rumpke Waste and Recycling recently announced that it would accept new plastic items for recycling. Along with the previously accepted plastic items like bottles and jugs, Yellow Springs residents can now fill their recycling bins with fruit and yogurt cups and butter, sour cream, cottage cheese and whipped topping tubs. Whereas the plastics Rumpke usually accepted for recycling tended to be #1 PETE or #2 HDPE that is, polyethylene terephthalate or high-density polyethylene the newly accepted items are all #5 PP, or polypropylene, plastics. Polypropylene has long been passed over for collection by many residential recycling programs across the country, due in part to the expense of recycling the material compared to producing it from scratch.
