KOLKATA: The Bharatiya Janata Party in its electoral mathematics for Bengal had counted on the 3 million strong Vaishnavite Matua community spread over the districts of Nadia, South and North 24 Parganas as a major vote bank, with the Prime Minister taking time not only to pay repeated visits to Matua dominated constituencies but even to a Matua shrine in neighbouring Bangladesh.
Bengal: TMC Wins Big in Assembly Seats Reserved for SCs, STs
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 46 of the stateâs 84 seats reserved for SC and STs. This time, BJP won 39, while TMC has won 45.

Kolkata: Mamata Banerjeeâs Trinamool Congress (TMC) appears to have significantly eroded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)âs popularity among Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) groups, the assembly election results show.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 46 of the stateâs 84 seats reserved for SC and STs, while the TMC had 37 seats and Congress, one.

Bengal polls 2021: Amit Shah to address 6 public programs in poll-bound state today
Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah is set to address six public programs in poll-bound West Bengal on Sunday. Out of the six public programs, he will address three roadshows in the state today. At first, Shah will carry out a roadshow in Santipur at 12:20 PM. After concluding this event, another roadshow will be carried out in Ranaghat Dakshin at 1:30 PM.
At 3:40 PM, Shah will address a public meeting in Basirhat Dakshin. The fourth event will be a roadshow in Panihati at 04:25 PM.Â
The last two public programs will be in the form of town hall meetings.
