SHREVEPORT, La - Several kids in Shreveport now have a new or refurbished bike, courtesy of Bill s Bikes. 24 bikes were given to away today. The giveaway was made possible with donations from the communities in Louisiana and in other states along with hard work from KTBS 3 anchor Bill Lunn. As new bike owners, kids are making new plans.
âRide it every day,â said Khaleb Jones, who left with a new bike Saturday. Â
âI m going to be out probably like every day on my bike, thank God I have a new one,â said Jadon Ginn. It s something Jadonâs wanted for a while. He donated an old bike for Bill Lunn to fix for another kid. That s how this all started, with old bikes.
Mayor Perkins also revealed that he was approached by the soon to be sworn in Biden administration, but in the end decided to stay in Shreveport.
Perkins, in the middle of his first term as mayor, decided in 2020 to run for U.S. Senate. The move came as a surprise to a number of his constituents. The mayor lost to incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican.
The mayor told KTBS 3 that his motive to run for Senate was to get Shreveport more resources. But, with that in the past Perkins says his plan now is to stay home.
âI ll say my heart and energy is with the citizens of Shreveport,â Perkins said during a one-on-one interview with KTBS 3 Anchor Bill Lunn.
