Two NJ Transit rail unions ask for federal mediators in contract talks

NJ Transit’s rail unions are back at the negotiating table with the agency to renew contracts that were settled in 2016 after fears of a strike.
Two of the agency’s 15 rail unions requested assistance from a federal mediator in talks to reach new contracts after the old ones expired in 2019.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers announced on April 27 they requested a federal mediator under the Railway Labor Act. Talks started on Oct. 1, 2019. The National Mediation Board did not return phone calls from NJ Advance Media to identify the other union that requested mediators.

An apartment complex in Warren has been plagued with crime, so police are working to stop it.
WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) - Warren police have received more than 1,000 calls to 911 in the past year and a half from an apartment complex riddled with crime.
Most recently, police were at Warren Manor near 8 Mile and Dequindre for a barricaded situation. I heard gunshots yesterday and the night before. It woke me out of my sleep, one resident said. She described the constant crime at the complex, adding that she can t move because she can t afford to go somewhere safer.

Baby found unresponsive in mother’s bed in Warren
An 8-month-old toddler has died after they were found unresponsive in their mother s bed Monday morning. Police say it appears the child was unintentionally smothered, however an investigation is ongoing.
According to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer, an 8-month-old child was found deceased in a bed with his mother.
The child had been taken to a local hospital, but the outcome had not changed.
Police were in the 7200 block of Toepfer, a block west of Van Dyke Avenue.

Warren police are investigating the death of a baby girl who was found unresponsive after being in bed with her mother Monday morning.
Police believe the 8-month-old baby was smothered to death at the home located on the 7200 block of Toepfer Road, near Van Dyke Avenue. It appears that the mother unintentionally, possibly rolled over onto the baby, we re not sure yet, Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer told the Free Press Monday. This does happen occasionally, parents want to comfort their child, they take them to bed, they fall asleep and sometimes roll over and suffocate the baby.

DETROIT – City leaders are voicing concern about crime at an apartment complex in Warren.
“It seems like it’s almost weekly that we’re having a shooting over there,” said Gary Watts, a Warren City Council member.
