Just west of Winnipeg, Beaudry Provincial Park’s trails were primarily empty Tuesday afternoon, as strong winds whipped through clearings, blew globs of snow from craggy oaks, and carved daunting snowdrifts across roadways.
Despite the snowstorm or rather, thanks to it University of Winnipeg biology student Luke Roffey set out for a ski this morning, clad in his father’s equipment.

A snowmobile rider from Grunthal has now been lost in Whiteshell Provincial Park for two consecutive nights and search efforts are increasing in their intensity.
50-year-old Danny Lemay left Pinewood Lodge near Dorothy Lake Sunday evening to retrieve a sled that broke down earlier that day. During his mission, he became disoriented and attempted to head back before locating his damaged sled. His last contact with anyone was a cellphone call made at 9:30 PM, at which point he declared himself lost and estimated he was roughly ten minutes away from the lodge.
Since his disappearance, RCMP, Search and Rescue crews, and dozens of snowmobile riders from across the province have banded together in an effort to find him. Among them is Wayne Lemay, Danny’s brother.

A chopper equipped with thermal technology has been added to the search for a seasoned snowmobiler who went missing in the backwoods of Whiteshell Provincial Park on Sunday.

RCMP officers and local riders continued to search the trails for Dan Lemay, a 50-year-old Grunthal man who left Pinewood Lodge on Provincial Rd 307 around 4 p.m. that day. He intended to retrieve a broken snowmobile from Rennie, about 50 kilometres to the southeast on Highway 44, police said.
Family has told CBC the missing man is Dan LeMay from Grunthal, Man. It s believed LeMay ran out of gas somewhere on the trail between Pinewood Lodge on Dorothy Lake and the town of Rennie, Man., a stretch of nearly 40 kilometres.
Rennie is about 114 kilometres east of Winnipeg.
Members of LeMay s family are in the Whiteshell, a 2,700-square-kilometre provincial part about 120 kilometres east of Winnipeg along the Ontario border, searching for the father of three. Many volunteers were also out combing the area Monday.
