What began as a routine traffic stop led to an apartment search and the arrests of four men on various weapon charges, including possessing parts and tools commonly used to make “ghost guns” firearms often used in street crimes that are not serialized or registered as required by law, Davis police reported.
The investigation began late Monday afternoon, when officers stopped 20-year-old Demori Fobbs of Davis in the 500 block of L Street for multiple vehicle-code violations, police said in a news release. Fobbs is on felony probation out of Sacramento County, which led to a search of his car.
Inside, “officers located ammunition, a partially completed AR-15 rifle lower receiver and tools that could be used to complete the receiver and make a functional rifle,” police said, also noting that Fobbs’ probation status prohibits him from having any weapons.

WOODLAND, Calif. Three people were arrested, including a 14-year-old, for attempted murder following a pair of shootings in Woodland, Saturday night.
According to Woodland Police, the first shooting happened just after 9 p.m. in the 100 block of W. Beamer Street, near Woodland Senior High School. Investigators said the suspects shot at a home and grazed a person.
The suspects sped away, but police said a witness jumped in a car and chased after them. When the suspects saw they were being followed police said someone in the suspects’ car fired backward at their pursuer near Mariposa Street and W. Woodland Avenue. Police have arrested a man suspected of a series of armed robberies at a Yolo Federal Credit Union branch ATM in Woodland.
Police said the robberies happened at the Yolo Federal Credit Union located at 266 W. Main Street. The suspect stole from someone on one occasion with a gun and the other with a knife, all within the same week in late April.
Woodland police reported someone with a similar description robbed people at the same ATM within the same week in March.
Officers arrested 27-year-old Ervin Vargas on Wednesday in connection with then crimes with help from tips from the public.
