Armenian ex-minister of transport detained at Yerevan airport

Armenian ex-minister of transport detained at Yerevan airport Armenian Law enforcement officers detained Gagik Beglaryan, who headed the Armenian transport ministry from 2012 until 2016, at Yerevan Zvartnots airport on Tuesday. As the Police press service reported, 57-year-old Beglaryan was found onboard the plane that had arrived from Moscow. Detention has been chosen as a pretrial measure against him.  To note, the former minister, who had also served as Yerevan Mayor from 2009 to 2010, is charged with embezzlement and abuse of official power and has been declared wanted by Armenian Police since March 23, 2020. According to the mass media, the ex-minister has stayed outside Armenia for several years.

Desecration of Holocaust memorial condemned in Armenia: Foreign trace suspected

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS. Armenian public-political circles consider “an act of vandalism” and strongly condemn the desecration of the memorial honoring the victims of the genocides of the Jewish and Armenian peoples which is located in the Circular Park of Yerevan City, and call for a swift investigation to bring the vandals to account. Yerevan law enforcement agencies launched an immediate investigation and city authorities have sent specialists to restore and clean the memorial from the paint.

Yerevan Mayor has no plans to resign

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 9, ARMENPRESS. Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has no plans to resign, ARMENPRESS reports Marutyan said at the City Council session, answering the question of a Council member from ‘’Prosperous Armenia’’ Party, who asked to comment on the rumors that he will soon resign to be appointed Ambassador of Armenia to the Czech Republic.
