George H. Dorion, a chemist by trade at the Bacardi spirits company founded by his great-grandfather and a philanthropist who supported a myriad of causes and helped found the River Run, died Wednesday at his Jacksonville home two days before his 92nd birthday.
He had prostate cancer that had metastasized, according to his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Dottie Dorion, a former hospice nurse. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is investigating what caused a Ford Explorer to travel into the median on I-95 southbound at County Road 208 in Yulee, causing a chain reaction that sent the vehicle crashing into a semi-tractor-trailer truck.
A crash report from FHP said the SUV collided with a guardrail in the median redirecting the vehicle toward the right shoulder, where it collided with a semi-tractor-trailer truck entering the ramp to the Florida Department of Transportation Weigh Station.

Dina Santos is only 19, but she s already lived a long life.
At age 12, with her parents in the throes of addiction, she started taking care of her four younger sisters. Eventually she and her older brother, who had left home, reported the family’s situation to authorities and she and her siblings were put into foster care.
Now she is a student at Florida State College at Jacksonville with law school aspirations. And she attributes her life s current upswing to ongoing support from Family Support Services of North Florida Inc., the lead agency for family preservation, foster care, adoption and extended foster care in Duval and Nassau counties.
