Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls Tuesday declared a city State of Emergency, due to the number of migrant asylum seekers released in the Yuma community. Nicholls says that in the last 19 days nearly 1,300 migrants have been dropped off, stretching the ability of nonprofits to the breaking point.
The mayor says he has been holding daily meetings with the two main organizations providing aid to the migrants, the Yuma Community Food Bank and the Yuma Salvation Army. He says they are operating well beyond their capacity, and there is no end to the migrant releases in sight.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey on what his state of emergency declaration and activation of Arizona National Guard troops means for Yuma County.
Ducey said he wanted to see firsthand what he says is a security and humanitarian crisis at the border and to call out the Biden Administration for its “failed leadership.”
The governor met with Yuma Sector Border Patrol officials and was joined by elected officials and border sheriffs.
“We will be sending up to 250 of our best women and men to our border communities, including here in Yuma, Ducey said in front of a section of border fence west of Yuma. They’ll be able to provide logistical, field and operational support to Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and his team.”
Great.
If that is so, the governor should have hightailed it back up to the State Capitol, because the people of Arizona are in dire need of protection from … Republican lawmakers.
Instead of doing that, however, the wizard of West Washington was down Yuma way taking pictures and ignoring the real crisis in Arizona.
As long as he can puff up his chest and make booming pronouncements about the border, Ducey doesn’t have to deal with the grotesque and harmful voter suppression efforts of his own party.
But pay no attention to the governor hiding behind the border wall.
