North Huron 77, Bay City All Saints 68
BAY CITY The North Huron varsity boys basketball team opened the 2020-2021 season with a 77-68 road win at Bay City All Saints on Friday night.
After staking themselves to a 50-42 lead at halftime, the Warriors held steady in the second half as the Cougars fought to get back in the game.
Noah Koth led the Warriors with 24 points, and Will Case was close behind with 22. Mason Brown had 11 points, Ryan Schorno had 8 and Joe Weiss had 5.
North Huron head coach Matt Shears said the Warriors had the chance to “knock some of the rust off” on Friday night after being sidelined by the suspension of contact sports in Michigan. North Huron’s offense was clicking at the beginning of the game, he said, but the lack of playing time became apparent as fouls and turnovers piled up.

The Caseville and Unionville-Sebewaing Area school districts received grants from the Michigan College Access Network this past year, helping students stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The USA school district had received a $10,000 grant in the late winter/early spring of 2020 for acquiring Wi-Fi hotspots, which were given out to students who were at home during the lockdown of spring 2020.
George Rierson, the superintendent of USA Schools, said the district ended up with 75 hotspots total, with some of them purchased through another grant the district received. He said the hotspots have been helpful for seniors who were transitioning into becoming college students.

With the Huron County health department looking to get school staff members vaccinated, some districts are relieved that they ve made the cut while others are frustrated it took this long.
In the state’s prioritization schedule for who gets COVID-19 vaccines, school and child care staff are in Phase 1B, along with essential frontline workers, corrections staff, and those 75 years and older not covered by Phase 1A of the schedule.
Bad Axe Superintendent Greg Newland said that he was informed by the health department that any school staff wishing to be vaccinated, whether they be teachers, bus drivers, or custodians, would have to register through the health department’s website, similar to what groups who already received the vaccine did.
